Would you call yellow a mean colour? Well, a few surprises. </p><p style="text-align: center;">I folded the white paper to create 6 squares, then the children used bright oil pastels to make the concentric circles (demonstration needed!) Afterwards they chose a bright coloured paint to sponge over the top...wax resist. </p><div style="text-align: center;">An extra activity was to mix paint colours with black and white to make tints, tones and shades, into bookmarks, like the paint samples in DIY shops. As soon as I discovered his work, I felt very familiar with it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It's like creating a display in school. Think about colours, not too many, build the layers up. With children's pictures, I can't stand it when they just draw and colour in. There are so many techniques that could be used to fill the space. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_P-6FifPIDna8HxuL2qgf3SynJrRqDLSeA8IhoyX-bl-rVKoX3LpJeuT1L4QdEJMv132IHfVFYAL0Dk1G-KE7Ma-meUnwJBeUGYSJlX2roOKN8hq7_QnVok3F0p2pLoXW9mCSjzLFy5k6/s1506/20201128_083200.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1186" data-original-width="1506" height="504" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_P-6FifPIDna8HxuL2qgf3SynJrRqDLSeA8IhoyX-bl-rVKoX3LpJeuT1L4QdEJMv132IHfVFYAL0Dk1G-KE7Ma-meUnwJBeUGYSJlX2roOKN8hq7_QnVok3F0p2pLoXW9mCSjzLFy5k6/w640-h504/20201128_083200.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Using my gelli plate, with silver and blue acrylic paints, the children used leaves to create these positive and negative prints.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">On a separate piece of white paper, using oil pastel the children drew either a magpie, or a wood pigeon. Worries.<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">With this artwork, early in the term, with the focus on well-being due to lockdown and coronavirus, the children talked about their worries. They wrote a word onto a piece of white paper with a white oil pastel. This symbolised that other people may not be able to see their worries and they may keep them hidden, to themselves. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The 'worries' were then revealed by using a colour wash over the pastel. .i.e. oil and water do not mix. I knew that I wanted a double ring like a previous quilt that I've finished in lockdown, but saw a pattern for a star that I liked.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgrzExBwq1QRdcifsZOr9HJQVxZ0dWfObConZS17WF28vJZWqiip4cWDeNwZVSiTa7j3YT2Ao2RL05XFsDVTjelm9nrHsAjpaRdHNbq6w9eZlqx8obhUr1wBsasBI2ZrARS0IjSgtUwTGi/s2048/20200804_141007.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1551" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgrzExBwq1QRdcifsZOr9HJQVxZ0dWfObConZS17WF28vJZWqiip4cWDeNwZVSiTa7j3YT2Ao2RL05XFsDVTjelm9nrHsAjpaRdHNbq6w9eZlqx8obhUr1wBsasBI2ZrARS0IjSgtUwTGi/s640/20200804_141007.jpg" /></a></div>My intention was to create matching coloured surrounding rosettes. I made a yellow quilt in 2012. I think I could make a whole quilt in yellow again, so cheery. But that would involve buying new fabric, which kind of defeats the object.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg00JfG3PXeAaB-9TAHY-LYjea0twcIdquS2y9dVdWeWO7pU-x83xoeqE5hgRlyD4-ermYrcx4RsIDWkUAHGaqcY-FVX2aQNj1dETtE90BUiyF9ZX30zFOebNkfxKJ8FKwhiS1jshCxV5I0/s2048/20200807_095321.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1907" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg00JfG3PXeAaB-9TAHY-LYjea0twcIdquS2y9dVdWeWO7pU-x83xoeqE5hgRlyD4-ermYrcx4RsIDWkUAHGaqcY-FVX2aQNj1dETtE90BUiyF9ZX30zFOebNkfxKJ8FKwhiS1jshCxV5I0/s640/20200807_095321.jpg" /></a></div>Maybe I should mix it up a little more... as I am using left overs, so its very scrappy, not necessarily blending fabrics. These include Moda playtime 30s layer cake. I didn't use the black and reds from a previous quilt.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTVkCb0zsCt-OqOsyClZEf3RE496a7rSfJJJUe8AVZqPs-Ndu3G-hlza_d6K036Fu1GiRiQHcRELhzmGoA8vWZQAu7IkWT2gZw6VfrKDbmNtgxWIKQjUUjMqUhbVAWfoD6_GWUsfwOzKed/s2048/20200807_095432.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTVkCb0zsCt-OqOsyClZEf3RE496a7rSfJJJUe8AVZqPs-Ndu3G-hlza_d6K036Fu1GiRiQHcRELhzmGoA8vWZQAu7IkWT2gZw6VfrKDbmNtgxWIKQjUUjMqUhbVAWfoD6_GWUsfwOzKed/s640/20200807_095432.jpg" width="640" /></a><br /></div>I have discovered that there is a pattern called 'Stars in the garden'. I decided to go with frogs. I usually try to make 20 beanbags, but did 40 this year.</div>

I changed the eyes this year too - I sewed on felt circles and then added black wool - safety and economical reasons....safety eyes are a bit too pricey. These sold out super quick!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The apple magnets are cardboard with fancy paper and a strip of magnet on the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The home sweet home garlands, again, cardboard and paper. Fiddly, but more economical to make than fabric goods. I punched metal eyelets at the ends for strength and used hessian string. I used Sizzix dies to make this paper craft,</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Welcome from snowy Wales! Yes the weather has turned and we are expecting heavy snow today, so school is closed!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
However, it was 'Welsh week' this week, and I managed to complete our study of an artist in Wales - <a href="http://www.valeriane-leblond.eu/home.html" target="_blank">Valeriane Leblond</a> with year 1 who are 5 and 6 years old.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We chose 4 pictures, each group did a different one. We studied the picture, then I demonstrated by drawing with a black pen. The children then had a go, then coloured it with oil pastels.</div>
